Apartments for rent in Ukraine

This summer season has started with stress for visitors to Ukraine. Because of the dollar rate change, all prices have gone up, and those who visit Ukraine with dollars can sense this literally every time when they have to pay for anything.

The dollar rate was relatively stable for a few years till spring of 2008. Recently, along with global processes of dollar rate changes, the local policy of strengthening ghryvna (local Ukrainian currency), led to dramatic change of the dollar rate, which fell at least 10% down compared to the rate of this spring.

The "industry" of apartment renting was mostly affected by the dollar rate in Ukraine, and the apartment owners are trying to adjust the rent to the current dollar rate.  Today, we'll talk about renting apartments in central cities in Ukraine on per day basis.

The general situation with renting apartments today is this - one can rent an apartment cheaper than the hotel rooms (especially in Kiev and a few other tourist places), but the final arrangements must be controlled up to the last minute. An apartment of two rooms in central Kiev would cost $75-80 today (with the dollar rate of appr. 4.6gryvnas to dollar the owners charge about 350 - 400 ghryvnas per night). This is 10-15% more expensive than the summer time of 2007, for example.

Some owners prefer to set up the rule of sign-in/sign-out time (usually, it's midday time), so if one would like to sign out in the afternoon, one's got to pay an extra day/night fee.

Also, the owners rent their central city apartments ion per day basis; in Kiev, it is especially typical that they provide apartments for 1-2 nights all of a sudden by a phone call, so they never know beforehand which of their apartments will be vacant on a particular day, so they do not make any final promises or advance reservations.

Even with this strange situation with apartments renting, majority of visitors prefer to rent apartments to staying in hotels. A single room in a central city hotel would cost at least $80 or more; one person's stay in a double room would cost about $65-$75. And, of course, hotels cannot provide the privacy and the homey environment that an apartment can offer.
